Church was over humility today and what it looks like to humble ourselves before God and how we, as human beings perceive humility. So you ask, how do we perceive humility? What is humility?
- As individuals who live on this earth we automatically assume that humility results in us walking the dreaded walk of shame while everyone else points and judges us. With our "tail" behind our legs we coward behind anything we can so know one sees us embarrassed or red in the face.
- As children of God who live not in a perfect world but a world of brokenness and sin we understand that humility is a blessing that we can use to grow others as well as ourselves. We view being humble as a garden waiting to be fertilized. Those who are willing to stand up and share a past with others without fear of judgement are showering blessings among the unwatered seeds that are lost in a sea of garbage. By obeying God and humbeling ourselves at His feet and in front of our brothers and sisters of Christ we are giving others the opportunity to bloom.
We all have a past, we have all felt shame at one point or another and we have all wanted to blend in with the walls. But God wants us to use our past to help the future, He wants us to allow ourselves to rid our bodies of any shameful choices and He doesn't want us blending into the wall but rather standing out with His light of love. As Truvy from Steel Magnolias puts it, "...this is the 80's, if you've hit puberty you have a past". Lets be humbeled before the Lord. Lets help build a garden of flowers that bathe and soak up God's love. Lets help others find truth and learn how to turn away from the things of this world that put us in bondage.
Together lets be obedient and do as God asks us to and love on others so they may bloom into someone who is no longer ashamed and who is ready to learn, through humbeling themselves, of God's unending grace.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. James 4:10
